Casa de Letras – Escuela de Escritura y Oralidad is the first academic organization in Buenos Aires (Argentina), dedicated to the teaching and development of creative writing, orality (storytelling, oratory, introduction of narrative thought in teaching) and subjects connected to these.

We devote our work to:
- Those who want to go deeper in the pleasure of reading, writing, storytelling;
- those who believe in words as a means to express their creativity;
- those who love literature and want to transform their passion into a profession.

Our main proposal consists of two specializations, both of a duration of two years:
- Narrative writing
- Orality

Additionally, we offer a diversity of courses and seminars related to the written or spoken word.

As a part of our academic activity, we organize lectures and interviews with writers, poets and other prominent personalities in the literary field.

We also develop courses for training teachers in universities and schools on how to use the narrative thought to achieve a closer communication with their students, and we participate in social responsibility programs, through storytelling to children in public schools.

The production of theatre and storytelling performances represent another area of interest, being as they are profoundly connected to the written and spoken word. Producing them is our way to pursue human gatherings to share a live artistic experience.

Through all our work, we at Casa de Letras intend to propose artistic expression as a means to transform individuals and society itself, and believe in culture as a basic factor for human development.

Specialization in Narrative Writing:

Casa de Letras is a School of Creative Writing oriented to the development of writing as a profession.
Our curriculum has been conceived as an integrated plan. The different subjects are interrelated among them, allowing a progressive learning along the four semesters.
Our team of teachers consists of a group of well-known writers, who combine their own expertise in creative writing with teaching skills. Each subject is conducted by a different teacher, so that the students can receive different points of view to enable them to search for their own.
Our curriculum is based on three main fundamentals:
- the practice of writing itself,
- critical reading for writers, and
- creativity, or the exploration of the creative process.
Along the two year formation, we offer a set of techniques and tools to guide the writer to discover those methods which very seldom he might discover on his own.
There is still a third optional year, destined to those graduates who present a concrete writing project. During this time, a writer/teacher of our team tutors the graduate’s work-in-progress (it can be a novel, a nouvelle, a biography, a short stories book, etc).

Specialization in Orality:

We constantly tell stories in our daily life, within our family group, in our social life, and also in professional matters. Storytelling continues to be the way in which human beings individualize themselves, and at the same time place themselves in the symbolic world of culture.
The teaching process along the specialization is focused in the following fields:
- artistic storytelling;
- incorporation of storytelling as a powerful tool in school teaching;
- efficient communication in the business environment.
The training we offer along the two year specialization enables the graduates to use oral communication more efficiently in whatever profession they have, as it provides them with tools which strengthen the resources of speech: the text, the voice, the body, the use of silence.

Other courses and seminars:

Of a duration between 8 and 24 hours, they cover various subjects connected with:
- Creative writing in its diverse literary genres: prose, poetry, drama, scriptwriting;
- Book editing;
- Tutorial support for works-in-progress;
- Reading and analysis of texts and their authors’ life and context;
- Orality: oratory, staging of storytelling shows, theatrical techniques to improve speech, training of teachers in narrative thought.

Lectures and interviews:

“Literature and its creators”: fortnight interviews with writers and prominent personalities connected with literature, coordinated by a specialized literary critic. This cycle, started in March 2006 and now going through its third consecutive year, is organized together with a governmental institution: the Fondo Nacional de las Artes.
